Moving to Valencia, Spain
Valencia is the capital city of Carabobo State, and the third largest city in Venezuela. The city is an economic hub that contains Venezuela's top industries and manufacturing companies. Valencia is Spain’s third-largest city and one of Europe’s most liveable cities. The city is host to a thriving and innovative cultural centre, graced by some of the world’s finest contemporary architecture.
Valencia is a city never afraid of innovation, it has diverted its flood-prone river to the outskirts of the town. Later, converting the former riverbed, into a superb ribbon of parkland which now winds through the centre of the city. On this reclaimed land stands the strikingly beautiful and futuristic buildings of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, designed by local architect Santiago Calatrava. Other brilliant contemporary buildings grace the city, which also has a handful of fabulous modern architectural gems mixed with great museums and a large, characterful old quarter.
The city is surrounded by a garden “huerta” of fertile fruit-and-veg farmland, which is famous as the home of rice dishes such as paella.
Expats living in Valencia enjoy the crowded terraces in the Canovas and Ruzafa neighbourhoods, as well as Valencia’s old city centre. Many expats also choose to live outside the city, in villages such as L’Eliana, Puçol or Betera, which are very well serviced with Valencia’s excellent public transport system. These outlying areas also offer spacious villas, international schools and shopping centres. And above all, much cheaper rentals than are often found in Valencia’s inner-city environs.
